More About Henrik Zetterberg Jerseys

Another great find by the Detroit Red Wings' scouting program, Henrik Zetterberg was laboring in relative obscurity at a tournament in Finland when he caught Jim Nill's eye. The Red Wings took a chance (albeit a small one) by drafting Zetterberg 210th overall in the 7th round of the NHL entry draft. As they have many times in recent memory the Red Wings struck gold with the off-the-board pick, and Zetterberg has since gone on to become a superstar in the NHL.

By the time Zetterberg arrived in the NHL in the 2002-03 season he had become a more well-known commodity, and had management drooling over his potential. He did not disappoint in his rookie campaign, netting 22 goals and 44 points and finishing second in voting for the Calder Trophy behind Barret Jackman of the St. Louis Blues.

In his second season Zetterberg would match those stats, this time doing it despite missing significant time with a broken leg suffered in a game against the Vancouver Canucks.

After a year back in Sweden during the NHL lockout year, the Swedish star really caught fire upon his return to the NHL. Zetterberg and fellow low draft pick Pavel Datsyuk both came into their own, with Zetterberg lighting the lamp 39 times and adding 46 assists to go along with a sparkling +29 rating.

In addition to his stellar regular season with the Wings, Zetterberg also starred with the Swedish national team during the 2006 Olympics in Turin. He, along with Wings teammates Nicklas Lidstrom, Tomas Holmstrom, Mikael Samuelsson, and Nicklas Kronvall, helped Sweden capture the gold medal for the first time since 1994.

After posting 68 points in 63 in the 2006-07 campaign, Zetterberg again caught fire in 2007-08. He started the season blazing hot, recording points in the first 16 games of the season, and didn't look back. He was voted as a starter for the All Star game but was forced to miss the event due to back problems. Despite his injury woes he would still go on to enjoy the best statistical season of his career, notching 43 goals and totaling 92 points in just 75 games.

As great as his regular season was, Zetterberg would trump it with his incredible playoff performance. Zetterberg was a machine as the Wings dispatched the Nashville Predators, Colorado Avalanche and Dallas Stars, racking up points while playing a defensive role against the other teams' best forwards. He continued his strong play in the finals against Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and the Pittsburgh Penguins, frustrating the Pens superstars with his doggedness on the puck.

Zetterberg would record 27 points in 22 playoff games, helping the Wings beat the Penguins in six games and capture the Stanley Cup. As icing on the cake Zetterberg scored the Stanley Cup winning goal and was awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP. At that point demand for Henrik Zetterberg jerseys had never been higher.

Following that spectacular season Zetterberg was also a finalist for the Frank J. Selke Trophy as the league's best defensive forward, but was edged out by Detroit teammate Pavel Datsyuk for the honor.

Though Zetterberg's play has slid somewhat from its peak in 2007-08 he continues to be one of the best two-way forwards in the league, and is a threat to score on every shift. He was rewarded for his strong play by Wings management when they signed him to a 12 year, $73 million contract that should see him remain a Red Wing until the day he retires.
